We're an independent controls and robotics engineering shop for people who want things done right the first time. If you have a machine that needs PLC work, a robot, or servos tuned, send us a note and we'll tell you whether we can help.

What we do

Services

Here's the kind of work we take on, from the control cabinet out to the robot cell.

01 · CONTROLS

PLC Programming

We write ladder, structured text, and function block on Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, and most of the others. The code you get back is commented and documented well enough that the next person can commission it without having to call us.

  • New machine logic & retrofits
  • HMI / SCADA screens
  • Safety circuits & validation
02 · ROBOTICS

Robot Integration

We integrate six-axis arms, SCARAs, cobots, and gantries. That starts with the cell layout and reach study, runs through the teach-pendant programming, and ends with the robot and the PLC actually talking to each other properly.

  • Pick & place, palletizing, tending
  • Vision-guided motion
  • Offline programming & simulation
03 · MOTION

Servo & Motion Control

We size axes, commission and tune drives, and build out cam profiles, electronic gearing, and registration. What we're after is motion that runs smooth and fast, and does the same thing on the ten-thousandth cycle that it did on the first one.

  • Drive & motor selection
  • Tuning & loop analysis
  • Coordinated multi-axis motion
04 · PLANNING

Motion Planning

We work out trajectories, collision avoidance, and where the cycle time is going. Most of that effort goes into making a move fast without it hitting anything or shaking the tooling apart along the way.

  • Path & trajectory design
  • Cycle-time studies
  • Kinematics & workspace analysis

05 · PROCESS

Process Planning

Before anyone buys a robot, we'll help you work through the sequence of operations, the takt time, how the parts get fixtured, and whether automating the job actually pays for itself. Sometimes it doesn't, and we'll tell you that too.

  • Automation feasibility & ROI
  • Line balancing & throughput
  • Spec writing & vendor review
06 · DESIGN

Industrial Design

We design end-of-arm tooling, fixtures, guarding, and enclosures. We've maintained enough of other people's equipment to design ours so it can be built, reached, and taken apart again without a fight.

  • EOAT & fixture design
  • Guarding & ergonomics
  • Prototyping & 3D printing
The shop

Who's behind the panel

Interrupt Systems is a one-engineer shop in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The idea behind it is pretty simple. The people who run a machine ought to be able to understand how it works, so every project goes out with the drawings, the comments in the code, and the tag names you'd actually want to see at two in the morning when the line is down.

"An interrupt is how a machine says hey, pay attention."

When there isn't client work on the bench, the shop fills up with robot-arm builds, servo experiments, and whatever CNC rabbit hole we've fallen into that month. We write those up on the blog when they turn out well, and sometimes when they don't.
